Introduction

Craig Winterburn is a dedicated sound therapist specialising in the transformative power of gongs. Through immersive sound healing journeys, (often known as gong baths) Craig guides people into deep states of relaxation, alignment, and inner harmony. A father to three wonderful sons, he brings compassion, grounded presence, and heartfelt creativity to all areas of his work.

Musical Background & Experience

With over 40 years of drumming experience, Craig’s life has been shaped by rhythm.
His musical journey includes:

  • Samba drumming

  • African drumming

  • Contemporary drum-kit

  • Rav Vast

  • Gongs & sound healing instruments

Craig spent 15 years working professionally as a drum-kit player, touring and releasing vinyl with bands including:
The Black and White Lovers, The Desert Wolves, Too Much Texas, Amy’s Winehouse and the Empty Cellars, Ska Council, and Slit Frenz.

Professional Training & Qualifications

Craig is a Manchester Metropolitan University–trained coach and community artist, completing two years of intensive teacher and coach training. This has shaped his unique style of motivational teaching, helping individuals and groups push their boundaries and discover their personal and musical potential.

He continues to deepen his knowledge through organisations such as:

  • Northern School of SoundSmiths – working toward accreditation with the International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine

  • CAN (Community Arts Northwest) – social media, film & photography

  • Panda Arts – project development

  • Union Street Media – project management

This ongoing training keeps Craig’s work evolving, grounded, and responsive to the needs of the community.

Craig combines structured musical training with intuitive, motivational coaching—helping students grow in confidence, expression, and self-awareness. Students consistently praise his ability to adapt to each person’s pace, provide reassurance, and inspire a sense of achievement.

As an active musician and community artist working across Manchester, Craig has extensive experience delivering:

For the past 17 years, he has taught at the One World Festival, leading six-day drumming intensives that culminate in a vibrant group performance. These workshops have become known for creating:
